RIYADH: The Arab Tourism Experts Union, a tourism body of experts seeking to promote tourism among the Arab countries, selected Riyadh as its headquarters. The union also decided to open branch headquarters in a number of Arab countries.
The countries that represent the general commission of the union include Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Iraq, Yemen, Oman, Tunisia, Algeria, Kuwait and Lebanon. The decisions to this effect was taken during meetings which were held in Amman, Saudi Press Agency reported.
According to the report the members of the union’s secretariat general were also elected with the former Algerian minister of tourism, Abdulqader ben Graina, as chairman of the union; Khalid Al-Rasheed as his deputy; and other 20 assistant secretary generals in order to achieve the aims and objectives of the tourism union. The tourism sector in the Kingdom is doing remarkably well as Saudi Arabia is ranked first in the Middle East and 36th internationally in the size of the travel and tourism investment.
The Travel and Tourism Index 2015, issued by the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), also ranked it first in the Middle East and 36th internationally for job opportunities in the tourism and the travel sectors
